A beautiful tessera with Artemis Ephesia
Lot 3138
ASIA MINOR. Uncertain. 2nd-3rd centuries. Tessera (Lead, 16 mm, 2.88 g). Ν-ЄΙ Cult statue of Artemis Ephesia, flanked by two stags. Rev. Blank. Apparently unpublished. A remarkably well preserved and well centered tessera. Good very fine.

From a collection of lead tesserae from Asia Minor.

For obvious reasons, Artemis Ephesia is a very common type on "Ephesian" tesserae. Our tessera with the legend Ν-ЄΙ is apparently unpublished, but for the general type, see Gülbay/Kireç 52, 56, 138, 139, 161-181, 201, 202 and Vossen col. 33, 53.
